Farmers in many regions face significant challenges in adopting sustainable agriculture practices due to a lack of access to practical, on-the-ground training and resources. This gap in knowledge and skills prevents them from effectively managing pests, optimizing soil nutrients, and maximizing crop productivity.
Roots Foundation’s Farmer Field School addresses this gap by offering non-formal, on-the-spot, practical activities that demonstrate sustainable agriculture principles and practices. This approach is designed to be accessible even to verbally literate farmers, empowering them to solve their field problems through active participation, interaction, and hands-on demonstration.
The Farmer Field School focuses on cultivating crops such as chilli, tomato, banana, cotton etc. Through these demonstrations, farmers learn to tailor Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and integrated soil Nutrient Management techniques to their specific needs, thereby maximizing productivity from their land. By equipping farmers with these essential skills, the Roots Foundation helps promote sustainable agriculture and improve the livelihoods of farming communities.
