Area: Sustainable Agriculture
Amrender Singh, a farmer from Pharal village in Kaithal, Haryana, has been the sole earner for his family of six. With agriculture as the primary source of livelihood, he faced significant challenges due to labor shortages, particularly for pesticide spraying, which hampered efficiency on his farm. Labor scarcity for spraying pesticides often led to delays and inefficiencies in crop management. This dependency not only delayed critical farming operations but also escalated costs, affecting the productivity and profitability of his farm. His challenges seemed insurmountable—until Project Sahyog stepped in to help.
Under Project Sahyog, Amrender received a tractor-mounted boom sprayer (TMS) along with hands-on training through demonstration sessions. Informational pamphlets were distributed to enhance awareness of its usage and benefits. Furthermore, the program encouraged farmers like Amrender to rent out the equipment to others in the community, fostering income generation. The introduction of the tractor-mounted boom sprayer (TMS) brought transformative changes to Amrender Singh’s farming practices. It significantly improved operational efficiency by reducing the time required for pesticide spraying to just three minutes per acre. Additionally, the TMS became a source of income generation, as Amrender rented it out at ₹300 per acre, earning over ₹1.5 lakh in a single season. Most importantly, it granted him independence by eliminating his reliance on labor, enabling him to manage spraying tasks conveniently and on time.
The TMS has become a valuable asset for Amrender, helping him sustain additional income each season by renting it out to fellow farmers. The time saved has enabled him to attend workshops on sustainable farming practices and agrochemical safety, which he actively promotes within his community.
Amrender Singh’s story exemplifies how access to modern agricultural tools and targeted training can empower farmers, improving productivity, reducing labor dependency, and creating new income streams. Through Project Sahyog, Amrender has not only enhanced his livelihood but also become a proponent of sustainable farming practices in his village.
